The Kapalua Bay Hotel on Maui is a small resort (around 200 rooms) by today's standards. It is, however, one of the best resorts in Hawaii so far. Size has lots to do with how much we liked this hotel. It never seemed crowded or hurried. Staff was always helpful and laid back. If you plan to stay at this hotel you need to hurry. We understand that Marriott will be tearing down the old hotel and building a new one in its place. |

We got a terrific room with a large lanai where we were able to watch the sun set between the islands of Molokai and Lanai. At sunrise (below) the islands of Lanai (left) and Molokai (right) appear and change color as the rays of the rising sun burst over ocean and islands. |

In the afternoons when the trade winds popped up, a number of sailboats like the one on the right sailed in the waters between the islands. We found this wonderful diner with free Internet access, good prices and decent food a few miles from the hotel. We only ate two meals in the hotel. |
