Van, a native Hawaiian born and raised on Molokai, lead our tour. Van is not his real name. Everyone likes to use nicknames on this island. Van is nicknamed Van because he drives a van. Pretty simple method of naming folks.

The view of the Kaluapapa Peninsula (right) was taken from Hawaii's Palaau State Park. This is where the (in) famous Molokai leper colony is.

The peninsula is part of the Kalaupapa National HIstoric Site and is shown to the left.

Linda (right) relaxes on the porch of the Mule Skinner Coffee place where they sell coffee and souvenirs. Behind Linda is a snack bar where I got a wonderful hot fudge sundae. Mule Skinner Coffee is the retail part of a coffee plantation. Click on image for larger format picture. Maui/08/25/2005/3830

Next stop on the tour is Purdy's Natural Macadamia Nuts - the Macadamia Nut Plantation. See my pictures of the Macadamia nut farm here.

After the nut tour, we ate lunch at the Hotel Molokai. See my pictures of the hotel here.

After lunch we stopped off at St. Joseph's Church. This church was built by Father Damien. This priest did so much for the Lepers at the Leper colony. The interior of the church and a statue of Father Damien are shown below.

Van, our tour guide, talked about and pointed out a number of ancient Hawaiian fish ponds. These ponds were used by the Hawaiians as a source of food.

Van brought us out to 20 mile beach (which is also known as Murphy's Beach Park). This beach on the Molokai Highway 450 at mile marker 20. Hence the name, 20 mile beach.

This lovely beach is shown to the left and below.
