HOME -> Hawaii

See all of the Kauai pictures here!

Kauai is one of the Hawaiian islands. We flew into the Lihu`e airport. We stayed at the Kauai Marriott Resort & Beach Club. I bought Hawaiian clothing and keepsakes at Hilo Hattie's. We went to a Luau. We went on a sunset cruise.

We spent one day driving around the island. We visited Wailua Falls, Kilauea Lighthouse, and Waimea Canyon. While driving through Waimea Canyon, we stopped at Waimea Canyon Lookout, Puu Hinahina Lookout, Kalalau Lookout, Kokee Lodge, and Hui O Laka & Koke'e Natural History Museum.

Wailua Falls (shown above right) can be reached by taking Hawaii State Highway 583 from just outside of Hanamaulu to its end.

Waimea Canyon State Park and Kokee State Park

Waimea Canyon State Park and Kokee State Park are both in Waimea Canyon. Waimea Canyon is as large as the Grand Canyon but it does compare favorably to Palo Duro Canyon in Texas. If you are on Kauai and have a car, plan on touring the canyon. It takes about six hours to drive and eat lunch. You can't miss Waimea Canyon on any of the maps. It is the largest land feature on the island.

Kokee Lodge and Hui O Laka & Koke'e Natural History Museum

We ate in the restaurant. We had chili, white rice, and fruit cocktail. I didn't take the time to check out the museum. Maybe next time.

The airport at Lihue is not crowded. The folks are friendly.
