See all of the pictures taken on the USS Lexington here!

USS Lexington Museum On The Bay is located in Corpus Christi , Texas.

The Lexington is a huge floating museum. You enter the museum by walking up a long causeway to get to the hanger deck. From the hanger deck, you can take a number of self guided tours. The self guided tours allow visitors to experience different parts of the aircraft carrier. I walked all each of the self guided tours except the one of the engine room.

For some reason, I assumed the Lexington to have been frozen at World War II when it was built. What I hadn't expected was the apparent remodeling jobs that occurred over the years to retrofit or upgrade the carrier as new technologies and Navy practices came on line. Reminds me of bad remodeling jobs on houses - re-muddling. The museum does a good job of acknowledging and explaining the changes to the carrier over its years of military service.

The museum needs your financial support to maintain the ship. Linda had been here before and reports that the ship is in worse condition than it was a number of years ago.

On this trip, we first went to Goose Island State Park and enjoyed a genuine White Christmas. Then we moved South to Mustang Island State Park. While staying at Mustang Island State Park, we rode the Port Aransas Ferry, visited the USS Lexington Aircraft Carrier, visited the Texas State Aquarium, and drove around the Padre Island National Seashore park. Then we moved inland to Goliad State Park.

Above left - much of the ship is as it was when the museum received it from the Navy.

Above right - a chapel in an aircraft carrier. It isn't so weird if you are a crewman. However it does seem to be at cross purposes.

Right - The Lexington has a number of airplanes. They are all really cool.

Below left and right - For some reason, people like to fish in the Lexington's shadow.
