The Katy Trail State Park runs through the South Main Historic District in St. Charles, Missouri. The Katy Trail is a converted rail line. It isn't paved but the road base is small crushed gravel that has been compacted. Riding our mountain bikes with their big wide tires was smooth and easy. Most other folks we saw riding bikes on the trail also had wide bike tires. The South Main Historic District in St. Charles, Missouri is a wonderful place to explore. A number of the buildings date from the 1800's. There are a number of good restaurants to eat in and small shops to browse. |

You can see that the crushed gravel roadway ends just underneath Missouri State Highway 370. The trail still continues but it is un mowed grass and would be rough and hard riding for most bicyclists. Over the fourth of July weekend, there was lots of live music for park patrons. The park is also used for great fireworks displays that we were able to see from our campsite at the Sundermeier RV Park. |
