The Museum of the Big Bend is located in Alpine, Texas. The museum is part of Sul Ross State University. The museum doesn't maintain much of a permanent collection on display. Instead, every three months or so, they change out the main exhibit. The last time I visited the museum, they were showing the Buffalo Soldiers.
This time the main exhibit was a series of black and white photographs taken with a large format camera. Great pictures depicting life in and around Alpine and Fort Davis. Mostly focused on ranching.
They are building a new building to house the museum. Expected to be completed by September 2006. This will allow the museum to show a greater number of articles from their own permanent collection.
