Lake Whitney State Park
Wednesday, August 27 through Monday, September 1, 2003
|Lake Whitney State Park is located near Whitney ,
Texas. Whitney is in the Praries and Lakes region of Texas.
Whitney is also about 20 miles west of Hillsboro. Hillsboro is where the closest
outlet malls to Dallas are. Hillsboro is a little south of where Interstates 35E
(through Dallas) and 35W (through Fort Worth) come back together into 35 south of Dallas.
The Texas State Parks web site has information on the park. The park's main feature is the lake. This isn't the only park on Lake Whitney. There are a number of Army Core of Engineer parks on the lake as well. This park is well maintained. The sewer spots are a little different than what I've experienced before. They are really septic systems. If you dump full. tanks into them, they overflow. They worked fine for us. Our strategy was to leave the black tank closed. When we left the park, we dumped the black tank at the dump station. We left the gray water tank open while parked.
We had expected the park to be very busy over Labor Day Weekend. It was until it rained. But before it rained, the weekend was building like we expected. Since the main feature of the park is Lake Whitney, there is lots of boating. Many of the other campers brought boats of all kinds. The other park patrons are generally considerate. It was quiet by 10 PM. Life didn't resume until after 8:00 AM. There are a number of campsites in this park so not all of the campsites may be as well behaved as ours.
I saw some wildlife. There were deer, skunks, turkeys, roadrunners, crows, butterflies, vultuers, egrets, etc.
