See more pictures of the JIm Hogg Historic Site here!

Jim Hogg Historic Site is located in Rusk , Texas.  Rusk is the Cherokee County seat which is in the Piney Woods of Texas .   The Texas State Parks web site has information and a map of the park. We were in the area visiting the Texas State Railroad State Park, Rusk/Palestine State Park, Mission Tejas State Park, and Caddoan Mounds State Historic Site.

Jim Hogg was the first native born Texas governor. I can't really tell if this is where Governor Hogg was born, or this is just where they built his birthplace memorial and grave site. The site includes the hog family grave site, a Museum, a pavilion, a playground, a campground, and some interesting Hogg building replicas.

We visited mid-week. We didn't see any other visitors while we were here. The Museum was closed. The pavilion has restrooms. I didn't try the door to see if they were open or not. This is a pretty peaceful place.

Some sage advice on a poster in the pavilion.
