See all of the pictures taken at Caddoan Mounds here!

Caddoan Mounds State Historic Site is located near Weches , Texas.  Weches is in is in the Texas Piney Woods.   The Texas State Parks web site has information and a map of the park. There is no camping at this historical site.

Caddoan Mounds is just a few miles from Mission Tejas State Park. We used Mission Tejas State Park as a base for our day trip to Caddoan Mounds. Other parks in the area that we visited are Rusk/Palestine State Park, Texas State Railroad State Park, and Jim Hogg Historic Site.

Caddoan Mounds is all about the indiginous peoples that inhabited Texas before Europeans came to the new world. It is both an archiological site and a show case for aboriginal information. The staff at the site was extremely helpful and knowledgable. I learned things that opened my eyes to the role of the Spanish in the new world.

If you are in the area, stop in.

You can't miss the mounds. One of the mounds (shown in the left hand side background of the picture on the left) is literally just off the highway.

Below is a 360° view of the Histroical Site taken from the Historic Site's trail.

Below (right), Linda is completing a survey for the ranger. We spent well over an hour talking to the park folks. Both were real knowledgable about the whole aboriginal thing. I learned a lot.
